The Wonders of Watching Summer Turn Into Autumn

"Nature gives to every time and season unique beauty; from morning to night, as from the cradle to the grave, it’s just a succession of changes so soft and comfortable that we hardly notice the progress." ~ Charles Dickens

“Autumn carries more gold in its pocket than all the other seasons.”

~ Jim Bishop

Now that International Day of Peace has come and gone and The BeThePeace Challenge for 2018 has closed as a group with everyone off creating ripples of peace in their part of the world, I'm returning to my writings and photos about wonder, particularly the wonders of the changing seasons.

I have been delighting in all the subtle signs of those late summer days slowly shifting into autumn. The long golden hour shadows and glowing orange light in the late afternoons, the sunflowers bursting forth, and the ripening of raspberries, tomatoes, apples, and squash, all bring me immense joy. When the first leaves began to fall from the trees, I would make a point to step on them on my walks, relishing the crunch and crinkle noises from each one.

As I've been regaining my strength, I've been venturing farther on my walks, often finding myself in a beautiful community garden. It has been a feast for the senses watching the fruits and vegetables ripen, the flowers overflow the garden hedges, and the vines twist and twirl. Every visit I discover new treasures and the ever ripening and changing abundance of late summer and early autumn harvest.

Here is a selection of some of my photos from my Wonder Walks, shot on both my Easy-Macro Lens on my phone, as well as my new Sony6000.

How do you honor the shifting seasons? What do you love about fall or the season in which you find yourself? What treasures are you discovering on your walks? Feel free to leave a comment or send a message.

“I hope I can be the autumn leaf, who looked at the sky and lived.

And when it was time to leave, gracefully it knew life was a gift.” ~ Dodinsky
