The Wonders of Frost
“But frost,
like the crystallized dreams of autumn,
began to coat the clearing with its
sugar glaze.”
~ Victoria Logue
A cold draft woke me from my slumber, and, glancing out the window, I sat up with delight: frost had dusted the landscape over night! After spending most of my life dreading the arrival of the cold winter months, waking up with delight and excited glee from the arrival of frost was a most refreshing change! I couldn't wait to discover the tiny treasures that awaited me! Bundling up, I ran outside and began exploring the world through the lens of my cell phone camera.
Even after years of my Wonder Walks, I am still continually astonished by the majesty and magic of the wonders that are patiently waiting to be discovered! May these treasures delight you too!
“Frost grows on the window glass, forming whorl patterns of lovely translucent geometry. Breathe on the glass, and you give frost more ammunition. Now it can build castles and cities and whole ice continents with your breath’s vapor. In a few blinks you can almost see the winter fairies moving in . . . But first, you hear the crackle of their wings.” ~ Vera Nazarian, The Perpetual Calendar of Inspiration
“For winter was coming. The days were shorter, and frost crawled up the window panes at night. Soon the snow would come. Then the log house would be almost buried in snowdrifts, and the lake and the stream would freeze.” ~ Laura Ingalls Wilder
